Getting started
What DocSpell is
Point it at a repo, edit what it writes, publish a docs site.
DocSpell reads your codebase and writes documentation from it. You connect a repository, DocSpell plans the pages, writes each one from the files it describes, and you publish the result as a fast docs site with search.
You're reading one right now. Every page here was written in DocSpell and is served by the same viewer your docs get.
Why it exists#
Docs rot because writing them is a separate job from writing the code, and nobody notices when the two drift apart. DocSpell keeps them attached: every generated page remembers the files it came from, so when those files change, DocSpell tells you which pages are out of date.
Docs that know where they came from can tell you when they're wrong.
What you get#
- Pages written from your real code, in the tone and depth you pick
- A block editor to fix anything the AI got wrong
- Drafts, publishing, and a version history for every page
- A docs site with search, light and dark, and a layout that works on phones
- An
llms.txtand an MCP endpoint, so AI agents can read your docs too
Where to next#
Start with the quickstart. It takes you from an empty account to a published page.
