Terms of Service

Last updated 27 September 2026

These terms cover your use of DocSpell, the documentation platform at docspell.dev (“DocSpell”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you use DocSpell for a company, you're agreeing on its behalf and confirming you're allowed to.

The short version

  • Your docs are yours. We host them and show them to the people you publish them for.
  • Don't use DocSpell for anything illegal or harmful. The Acceptable Use Policy spells that out.
  • Paid plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time.
  • We work hard to keep things running, but the service is provided as is.

Your account

You need an account to create doc spaces. Keep your sign-in details safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has access. You're responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 16 to use DocSpell.

Your content

You keep all rights to the documentation, images and other content you add to DocSpell, including pages written with AI generation. You give us a limited licence to host, store, process and display that content so we can run the service: saving your pages, serving your published docs to readers, generating pages you ask for, and making backups. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from routine backups that expire on their own.

You're responsible for having the right to use what you upload, and for anything you choose to publish publicly.

GitHub and AI generation

If you connect GitHub, you authorise DocSpell to read the repositories and paths you choose so it can write documentation from them. During a generation, the relevant files are sent to our AI provider to produce the pages. We don't store your source code; we store the pages that come out. AI output can be wrong, so review what it writes before you publish it. You can disconnect GitHub at any time. The Privacy Policy explains how this data is handled.

Plans, billing and cancellation

Some features need a paid plan. Current prices and limits are on the pricing table. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through our payment processor Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel from Settings, Billing at any time; you keep your paid features until the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds are covered by the Refund Policy.

We may change prices. If we do, we'll tell you before your next renewal, and the new price applies from that renewal onward. Plan limits, like the number of doc spaces or AI generations, may also change; we won't reduce what you've already paid for during a current billing period.

Fair use

Don't try to break, overload or get around the limits of the service, scrape other people's content, or access anything that isn't yours. We may rate-limit, suspend or remove content or accounts that break these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy. Where it's reasonable, we'll warn you first.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. That deletes your doc spaces and pages. Export them first if you want a copy; Settings has a Markdown export for every doc space. We can end or suspend your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep DocSpell available and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, add or remove features. If we ever shut DocSpell down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice so you can export your docs.

Disclaimers and liability

DocSpell is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For significant changes we'll give notice by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using DocSpell after that, the new terms apply.
