For teams with a codebase and no docs.

Documentation, written from your actual code.

Point DocSpell at a repo. It reads the code, works out what's worth documenting, and writes it up. You edit, you publish, you're done by lunch.

§1

Connect a repository.

Pick a repo, a branch, and the folders that matter. DocSpell reads it like a new hire would on day one: entry points, routes, config, and that README you keep meaning to finish.1

1The branch and folders are saved with the doc space, so the next run reads the same slice of the repo.

§2

Tell it who the docs are for.

Beginners or senior engineers? Short pages or thorough ones? Set the tone once and DocSpell plans the pages around it, so you don't get one giant wall of text.2

2Tone, audience and length are saved too. A rerun starts from the same settings.

Generate documentation

Tone, audience and page length. Set it once and it sticks for next time.

§3

Edit it, then ship it.

Every page is written from the files it describes and lands in a proper block editor. Fix a sentence, move a section, drop in a screenshot. Hit publish and it's a fast docs site with search.3

3Drafts stay private until you publish, and every publish is kept as a version you can restore.

Real pages in a real editor. What you see here is what gets published.

§4

Keep up when the code moves.

Docs go stale because nobody notices the code changed. DocSpell remembers which files each page came from, so when they change you can regenerate just that page instead of rewriting everything.4

4It compares each source file's git hash, one GitHub call per doc space, and lists the pages that drifted.

Specimens · Try it live

Poke at the real thing.

These run against DocSpell's own published docs, right now. Nothing here is a recording.

Every doc space gets an MCP endpoint and an llms.txt. Point Claude or Cursor at the URL.

    Specimen C. Your accent colour

Pick any colour. DocSpell keeps the hue and adjusts the shade until links pass 4.5:1 contrast on both the light and the dark page, so nobody ships unreadable docs by accident.

    Appendix B · Questions

    Questions.

    Anything else, write to hello@docspell.dev.

    Which languages does it understand?

Pretty much all of them. DocSpell reads your source as text, so TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, whatever you've got. It does best when the code has sensible module boundaries and at least a short README.

Does DocSpell keep my source code?

No. Files are pulled from GitHub while a generation runs and sent to the AI model to write the pages. We keep the pages it writes, not your code.

What do I get on the free plan?

One AI generation from your own repo, the full editor, and publishing with no time limit. The pricing table above always has the current limits.

Can I edit what the AI writes?

Yes, and you should. Every page lands in the editor as a normal page. Rewrite it, reorganise it, or delete it.

What happens when my code changes?

Each page remembers the files it was written from. When those change, you can regenerate that one page without touching the rest of your docs.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, on paid plans. Add a CNAME pointing at DocSpell and we sort out the certificate.

    Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Cancel from billing and you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for. The refund policy has the details.

Point it at a repo. Have docs by lunch.

Start free, on your own code. No card needed.
